Adding maps

SurvivalGames doesn't ship arena maps: you add the maps you want to play (your own, or ones you have the author's permission for). A lobby map comes with the plugin. Until a map is added, the console and /sg doctor show how.

There are two ways: let the plugin download a zip, or copy the world yourself.

Add the map to plugins/SurvivalGames/default-maps.yml under maps and restart. The plugin downloads it, installs it as an arena and places the spawns.

yaml
maps:
skyfall: # the arena's name: letters, digits, _ and -
    credits: "Skyfall - YourBuildTeam"
    url: https://example.com/maps/skyfall.zip
    sha256: "" # optional: the zip's SHA-256, checked when set
folder: "" # the world folder inside the zip; "" = the zip's root
min-version: "1.8" # the version the map was saved with
    border: {x: 0, z: 0, size: 400} # world border: center and side length
    spawns:
      center: {x: 0, z: 0}
radius: 25 # spawns on a circle around the center...
      count: 24

Instead of a circle, the map's own spawn pedestals can be listed (players face the center):

yaml
    spawns:
      center: {x: 0, z: 0}
      points:
        - [20.5, 65, 0.5]
        - [19.5, 65, 6.5]
        # one [x, y, z] per player
KeyMeaning
urlA direct zip link or a MediaFire file page
sha256Empty: not checked; the downloaded file's SHA-256 is logged so you can paste it here
folderWhere the world (the folder with level.dat) is inside the zip
min-versionOlder servers can't open newer maps, so they skip it
removeFiles or folders to delete from the world (e.g. [players, datapacks])
spawn-pistonstrue for maps with pistons under the spawns that lift players at the start
lobby[x, y, z] where players wait before the game; default: each on their own spawn

A map isn't installed again while arenas/<name>.yml exists. To re-download it, delete arenas/<name>.yml and maps/<name>/ and restart.

Option 2: copy the world

  1. Copy the world folder (the one with level.dat) to maps/<name>/ in the server folder, next to your worlds (on a network: your shared maps-folder).

  2. Create plugins/SurvivalGames/arenas/<name>.yml:

    yaml
    world: sg_<name>
    template: maps/<name>
  3. Restart. The arena's world is copied from the template.

  4. Set the spawns in game:

    /sg edit <name>
/sg arena addspawn (stand on each spawn, once per player)
/sg arena adddeathmatch (optional: final fight points)
/sg arena setborder 400 (optional: a world border around you)
    /sg edit save

The arena is ready: /sg list shows it, players join from the compass.

Tips

  • Version: a map saved on 1.8 opens on every version up to 26.x; a map saved on a newer version doesn't open on older servers.
  • Players per game: one per spawn. max-players in arenas/<name>.yml can lower it.
  • Chests: the map's own chests are found and filled automatically (inside the world border, or around the spawns). See Chests.
  • Changing the map later: /sg edit <name>, change blocks or points, /sg edit save. Changes made outside edit mode are lost at the next reset.
  • Licences: use maps you made or have permission for, especially on a public server.
